Current council
Shetland Islands council is currently made up of 21 independent elected members and 1 SNP elected member.
According to the 2020 Hands Up survey 23.1% of children in Shetland walked to school in 2020, 5% cycled and 1% scooted or skated. According to the 2021 Cycling Scotland annual monitoring report 2% of employees usually or regularly cycle to work and 13% of households have no access to a car. The council’s active travel budget for 2019/20 was £37,000 (capital), and £50,000 (revenue) which works out as a total of £3.80 per person. In 2021 the Shetland Active Travel Strategy 2021-26 was approved by the Board of ZetTrans.
